Where shall we start this year’s march?
NOT Southside Park.
It is an honor to stand with the millions of women across the globe who work to dismantle systems of oppression through nonviolent resistance and to build inclusive structures guided by self-determination, dignity and respect.
Since July, we at Women’s March Sacramento have been hard at work with the monumental task of rebuilding the chapter from the ground up. Though we’ve had drastic changes in the leadership board, we are excited to keep our united H.E.R.S. Framework –– Health, Economic Security, Representation, and Safety.
For the last six months, we have also been working closely with Women's March Global in preparation for re-launching our Global/Community platform for 2019.
Our organization is a non-profit, 100% volunteer-led entity. We all work tirelessly to put on an event each year and invite you to donate in celebration of women’s rights as human rights. Additionally, we honor local Sacramento organizations who align with the Women’s March Global Pillars in Sacramento. This event will be a celebration of those organizations and the many women who answered the call for change locally by running for office in 2018.
Will There Be A March in the Streets?
We want very much to put on the best march yet–– however, what the march will look like depends entirely on your donations.
The City of Sacramento has insisted that we CHANGE THE STARTING LOCATION of our Women’s March – to start in West Sacramento.
That's quite the challenge.
Our goal, to pull that off, is to raise $60,000 to cover the costs of the shift in starting location.
Breakdown Estimates of Needs:
$20,000 for Permits and Safety
$12,000 in Street Closures
$25,000 of A/V Equipment for Rally
$2,500 to have Portable Restrooms
$1,200 for Trash Management & Cleanup
If EVERYONE were to donate $10, we would raise over $110,000! That is more than enough to throw an OUTSTANDING event, PLUS support local Women’s Rights nonprofits in the area!
What happens in the event that we do not raise all of the funds necessary to produce a safe and secure march from the new starting location in West Sacramento?
The Women’s March Sacramento Chapter WILL host a #WOMEN
’S WAVE RALLY on all four sides the CA State Capitol on January 19, 2019 – we’d simply march on Capitol grounds to encircle the Capitol for an aerial photo.
Wherever we begin the march, we at Women’s March Sacramento look forward to seeing you January 19th, 2019 at 10AM.
In Strength, Growth, & Solidarity,
Women’s March Sacramento
P.S. Your skills are very much needed!
